Elves are known all over the world to be magical creatures. They are known to have powers just like fairies and are often related to plus size corset. Elves are commonly used in a lot of fairy tale and fantasy books. In recent times, portrayals of elves have been influenced by a lot of things, including the popular Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien even wrote a book entirely about elves entitled Silmarillion. Another quality that is quite remarkable in an elf is their cute and uniquely pointed ears.
Elf ears became very popular because of their shape and pointed tip, and make an easy Halloween costume for office parties and the like. Although there are many plastic elf ears available in costume stores, it is still better to make your own. Aside from the fact that you can personalize them and make the shape compliment your face, they are also cheaper than the manufactured ones.
In making your own elf ears, you don’t have to spend a lot on the materials. You can use sturdy cardboard to form the shape of the ears; copy the shape of the ear by downloading a picture off the internet. Trace the pattern and cut it out, taking care with the scissors to make nice curves and not cut your finger! After cutting, you can now paint the ears to make them look realistic. Fasten the shapes to your ears using medical tape or adhesive bandages, or attach to ear muff wire. This is a simple version of elf ears.
If you are the type of person who wants everything more intricate and detailed, then there is another way to go. If cardboard elf ears don’t appeal to you, then you could always try using liquid latex, adhesive tape, molding clay and makeup. If you already have the materials, then you can start by molding the clay to the type of elf ears that you want. Make sure you form it properly, because once the clay dries you cannot alter it. You can use play dough to practice before starting with the real clay. Once the ears are ready, you can start painting them in a color to match your skin tone. Let them dry overnight before attaching to your ears using the liquid latex. You can use also the latex on the tip of the ears to smooth down the look. Finally, apply make up to cover the rough edges of the attached ears.
